Characteristic Phenotypes in Korean Crohn's Disease Patients Who Underwent Intestinal Surgery for the Treatment

چکیده
There are no previous large scale studies which have evaluated the phenotypes and clinical characteristics of Korean Crohn's disease patients who underwent intestinal resection. The purpose of this multicenter retrospective cohort study was to evaluate the clinical characteristics of Korean Crohn's disease patients who underwent intestinal resection during the study period. A total of 686 patients were enrolled in this study. The study period was over a 20-yr period (1990-2009). The patients were divided into the first-10-yr group and the second-10-yr group. The phenotypes and clinical characteristics were compared between the groups. The most common site of the disease was the ileal area (37.8%) and stricturing behavior was observed in 38.3% patients. The most common type of surgery was segmental resection of the small bowel (30.6%). These phenotypes showed a similar pattern in both the first and second study period groups and did not show any significant differences between the groups. The number of registered patients increased continuously. The phenotypes of Korean Crohn's disease patients who underwent intestinal resection are different compared with previously reported clinical characteristics of general Crohn's disease patients.

Surgical treatment for small bowel Crohn's disease: an experience of 28 cases.
BACKGROUND Crohn's disease is increasingly encountered in India. This paper reviews our experience with surgery for small bowel involvement in Crohn's disease. METHODS Retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data of patients who underwent surgical resection for Crohn's disease during a period of 8.8 years from 1997-2006 at a tertiary care center. RESULTS Twenty-eight patients (mea...
متن کاملIdentification of diagnostic biomarkers by bioinformatics analysis in the inflamed and non-inflamed intestinal mucosa in Crohn\'s disease patients
Background: Crohn's disease (CD) is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) which despite the unknown details is generally related to genetic, immune system, and environmental factors. In this study, we identify transcriptional signatures in patients with CD and then explain the potential molecular mechanisms in inflamed and non-inflamed intestinal mucosa in these patients. Materials and Me...
متن کاملDiagnostic accuracy of fecal calprotectin in assessing the severity of inflammatory bowel disease: From laboratory to clinic
Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) involves chronic inflammation of the digestive tract. In the past decades, fecal calprotectin has been proposed as a useful biomarker for the differential diagnosis between IBD patients and healthy controls. We designed this study to evaluate the diagnostic ability of fecal calprotectin (FC) and conventional inflammatory markers in IBD patients. M...

I read with interest the article by de Buck van Overstraeten et al., ‘Intersphincteric proctectomy with end-colostomy for anorectal Crohn's disease (CD) results in early and severe proximal colonic recurrence’.1 In their case series, 10 consecutive patients underwent intersphincteric proctectomy with end-colostomy. Early symptomatic recurrence occurred in 9 of the 10 patients at a median follow...
متن کاملAbsence of cytomegalovirus from the gastrointestinal tract of patients with active Crohn's disease.
BACKGROUND Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection reportedly is detectable in the gastrointestinal mucosa of patients with chronic inflammatory bowel disease. One view is that CMV infection is of clinical significance in patients with Crohn's disease with severe colitis not responding to steroid therapy. In this study, we evaluated the prevalence of CMV infection in our own patients with Crohn's disea...
